FDC Town Hall
A large, ornate room with rich wood panelling and a long counter. 
The Official Guidebook tells you the exit leads to Main Street,
but to the side you see a door marked "Cast Members Only." The 
friendly guide behind the counter tells you that if you need help, 
just look for answers in the FDCMuck [FAQ] Room or type '911' 
to get help from a real, live player.

Tink says, "well, speaking from RL, I first met MC at about 6am, Sat. January
21st at Orlando Int'l Airport.  He proposed w/in the hour :)"

Tink says, "that's 1995 -- and we were married in October :)"

Tink says, "of '95 -- so we celebrated our first anniversary recently"

Tink says, "actually, he had originally asked me to marry him in Sept.'94 --
before either of us had seen a photo"

i.e. how did your IC relationship get started?"
AbisMal is starting to feel really, REALLY lonesome now...
Kit says, "'scuse me."

Tink says, "well (and Abis, don't feel bad, b/c we'd known each other online
for quite a while -- not a whirlwind romance like Shock and Tweedles ;)), I
first started reading r.a.d. in Sept. '93"
Tink says, "the FDC had only *barely* started moving toward the popularity it
eventually gained.  I was a real newbie -- didn't figure out how to post for a
whole month :} but it gave me a lot of time to read and get to know the
regulars by what they wrote"
Tink says, "when I finally figured out what I was doing, I chose my FDC
character, so that was in October 1993"
Duck grins. :)
Tink says, "one day -- sometime in November -- I found an email in my box from
Geoff.  A response to something I'd posted, although I don't remember what
about"
Tink says, "that's how we started talking w/ one another away from Usenet...and
it's also how we started really having fun playing w/ our FDC personas"
Tink says, "but we didn't only talk about Disney or FDC -- there's only so long
you can do that :} before other things become more interesting.  So we started
becoming friends and learning about each other as real people -- and found that
was a lot more fun!"
AbisMal asks, "Did you know he lived 10,000 miles away when you got started?"
Tink says, "He was finishing his Master's thesis...I was working toward
finishing my BA degree.  We had a lot of experiences in common.  And I enjoyed
learning about NZ, just like he liked hearing about my experiences here"
Darkwing takes that as a yes.
AbisMal nods.
Tink says, "but the RL romance didn't start until July/August 1994"
Tink says, "actually, no :} not right away -- as I said, I was a newbie.  Took
a while for me to figure out what that "nz" at the end of his email address
meant ;)"

Tink chuckles, "well, I suppose I'm not the best person to ask <g>  I
definitely operate on my own dust -- but ask Shock about whether it's
contagious. She's the one who had to put up w/ me at strange hours of the
morning while we worked the graveyard shift"

AbisMal strokes Oliver.  "Thanks,...but it's not quite the same, Oliver."
Tink says, "ah, well, I was told he's kept in a vent that's in the Main Street
Utilidor under the MK"

Tink says, "but the thawing is anyone's guess"

AbisMal says, "Good thing he's not thawed now...he'd see that castle and pass
out again."

Darkwing quacks, "...Actually, Walt is buried under Disneyland, and they use
his spinning in his grave to generate electrical power.  :)"
Duck asks, "OK, what are some of the urban legends and tales (like Walt thawing
under Main St.) that you've heard from your park/resort days? Real ghosts in
the HM, for instance..."
Duck claps for Darkwing. I love that! Gotta remember it. :)
Tink asks, "urban legends?  Well, I'm sure that most everyone has heard the
legends -- stories I have are from weird experiences at the GF"
Duck says, "OK, well that'll work too."
Tink clarifies, "Grand Floridian, for those who don't know :)"
Si shudders.

AbisMal says, "Grand Flooded In."
Tink thinks...."Well, among my favourite experiences are seeing Gen. Colin
Powell at around 5:30am, leaving the hotel w/ his bodyguards before the hotel
became busy...and also talking w/ Roy Disney on the phone"
AbisMal exclaims, "YOU talked to Roy?  Whoa!"
Tink had an interesting conversation w/ the once-Sr. VP of WDFA at around 1am
at the front desk, "But he's now working for Warner Brothers"
Tink grins, "I just got a suggestion from someone -- and the answer is, yes, I
did speak w/ Elton John when he and Billy Joel were staying at the GF during
their tour together"
Oliver is JEALOUS!  "I wanna talk to EJ!!"
Si grins.  I know who gave you that suggestion.
Tink says, "Elton called for his luggage ;)"
Oliver purrs, "He normally has a LOT."
Tink thinkthinkthink, "I also met Hulk "Terry" Hogan at around 2am while he and
his wife were grabbing a late snack at the 24hr. grill.  He's an *enormous*
person -- but very nice!
Tink says, "but seeing/talking to famous people was not the best part of
working at the GF"
Si cocks her head, "What is?"
Tink says, "well, a few things -- working w/ Shock, for one.....going to the
parks *first* thing in the morning after work....getting the occasional
midnight Fax from NZ ;) :)"
Si grins.  "How did you get the job there?"
Tink says, "well, I'd been on the College Prog. in 1993.  I knew I wanted to
return to WDW full time once I graduated, but not to the job I'd held during
the CP"
Si cocks her head, "Which was...?"
Tink says, "so I did a little investigating while I was still in college (I'd
worked on Main Street, USA), and wrote some letters w/ resumes to send to
*each* of the Front Desk Managers at *each* of the resorts"
Tink says, "during spring break that year, I flew down to FL, and interviewed
at every resort that was open at the time (and even the Lodge right before it
opened) w/ the exception of the Contemporary and Ft. Wilderness"
Tink says, "and a few weeks after I returned, the Front Office Mgr. from the
CBch. called to tell me that the GF had fought for me and won"

Tink says, "but it definitely helped that I'd been on the CP -- b/c they could
refer to previous Disney work experience"
Tink says, "and now I'm at grad school -- but will move to CA in Dec. to be w/
MC, and to finish the last semester of my degree somewhere else"
Tink wonders if the questions are over?

Oliver smiles, "As I'm making very evident (address Oliver) I'm moving to Tampa
on SATURDAY, and I'm thinking about a possible job in WDW, what would you
suggest to start with?"
Tink says, "well, first I'm going to ask you if you're sure you want that sort
of commute :}  I used to live in the Tampa/St. Pete area, and it's not an easy
drive to Orlando, b/c I4 can have a lot of traffic"

Tink says, "When I was working at WDW and living in Orlando, I used to drive I4
all the time to visit my Grandparents on the Gulf Coast"

Oliver used to drive it every weekend to the Beeline expressway to Cocoa, but

Tink says, "well, then, the job you aim for -- as with anything -- should be
based on your previous experience, your goals, and your interests"
AbisMal , actually, wouldn't mind commuting an hour to work at Disney. :)

Tink says, "the toughest thing about working for WDW is getting your foot in
the door -- but once you do (and that takes persistence and good attitude), you
can go wherever you like, if you have energy and imagination"

AbisMal doesn't think ANY experience is required for the Jungle Boat
Cruise...except a head full of puns. :)
Oliver smiles, and has a friend in Casting in LA that has promised to help. :P
Tink would need to know more about your own interests/goals Oliver :) "so maybe
that's a whole conversation for another time --- and yes -- if you have
connections, that *always* helps!"
Tink has found that you can't always rely on Casting, "cos face it, they're
swamped.  Sometimes you have to go to the source -- write letters to the people
who are doing the jobs you want, or are in charge of them.  Get to know them,
and strut your stuff!"
Oliver smiles, "I'm willing to do that. :)"
AbisMal asks, "My question now?  Me thinks it's the last before Max and Meggy's
show..."

Tink smiles, "well, it's certainly not b/c I'm short -- I'm the tallest pixie

Tink says, "I've always felt she's more like what the Disney spirit is all
about than Mickey Mouse -- she has magic, and variety, and a real energy.
